Part-time Night Porter

To work as part of a small team covering Night Shifts between the hours of 11pm and 7am

This is a very responsible post requiring initiative, integrity, discretion and the ability to make decisions without recourse to colleagues. Before you proceed with your application you should carefully consider the following.

The hours of work are 11.00pm to 7.00am. This means that you may not be able to travel to and from work by public transport. This is especially the case at weekends. Can you guarantee that you can work these hours?

The work can be physically demanding.

There is a small amount of work which is done on a computer; training will be given but it would be helpful if you have some basic computer skills.

DUTIES:

  • Setting rooms for conferences and functions
  • Serving on the bar
  • Serving early breakfasts
  • Covering the reception desk
  • Checking the building and logging your checks

Head Receptionist

Due to internal promotion, we are looking to expand our current Front of House team by recruiting an experienced Head Receptionist.  The successful applicant will already have proven reception experience within hotel/leisure industry and would suit an experienced receptionist from a smaller property looking to move up the career ladder – experience with Guestline (Rezlynx) booking system preferable but not essential.

The Head Receptionist is responsible for providing a professional, friendly, welcoming and efficient service to all clients, colleagues, and other visitors or telephone callers in line with the hotel’s policy in relation to exceptional guest service. They will also be responsible for ensuring that all receptionists work to the same very high standards.

The reception function is crucial to the hotel’s ability to impress guests, contacts, visitors and telephone callers.

Head Receptionist duties:

  • To undertake front of house duties, including check in/out, meeting, greeting and attending to the needs of visitors, to ensure a superb customer service experience.
  • Dealing with enquiries relating to the firm in person, by phone, or by email
  • Takes accurate messages over the phone and delivers them as quickly as possible either by phone or email
  • Ensure knowledge of reception/reservations  personnel availability
  • Providing refreshments
  • Keeping the reception area
  • Monitor visitor access and maintain security awareness
  • Receive deliveries by hand and inform intended recipients
  • Receive payments from clients and oversee accommodation invoicing
  • Undertakes general administration duties relating to hotel corporate guests, including faxing and photocopying and to distribute appropriately and promptly.
  • Control inventory relevant to reception area
  • Report any breakage, cleanliness or maintenance issue
  • Undertake all periodic training as required (eg, first aid, health and safety, client service).
  • Adhere to all fire safety test procedures and to assist in the evacuation process in the event of fire
  • Ensure holiday and sickness cover across Reception/reservations
  • Liaise with Senior Management team as required to undertake the duties of the post.
  • Responsible for checking the content of the First Aid box on a regular basis and ensuring that items are replenished as and when needed.
  • The Receptionist or First Aider must ensure that completed pages of the accident book are sent to HR for filing and retention.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Proven switchboard experience
  • A friendly, welcoming, positive and professional approach
  • Professional standard of personal presentation
  • Ability to remain calm during difficult situations or in a very busy environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including a pleasant telephone manner and written communication skills
  • Good administrative skills and the ability to use email and booking systems
  • Able to work on own initiative

  • Good organizational skills
  • Proven professional experience of dealing with guests either face to face or over the telephone
  • Able to work in a discreet and sensitive manner
  • Demonstrable experience of having dealt with difficult situations and customers

  • Able to make sound judgements which show an understanding of the boundaries of the post
  • Is attentive when being spoken to, asks questions and seeks clarification where necessary
