From sheep to music – all happening around Skipton this weekend!

Skipton Sheep Day 2017

Skipton’s annual Sheep Day takes place this weekend and as one of the town’s most popular events, is well worth a visit.

Skipton Sheep Day is held each year to celebrate Skipton’s heritage – Skipton is ‘Sceap Tun’ in Anglo Saxon, meaning Sheep Town.

‘Sheep Shows’ will be held throughout the day along with a wide range of activities and attractions including dog and duck displays, a petting zoo, birds of prey and rare breed sheep displays. There will also be a selection of stalls, countryside arts, crafts and sideshows.

Skipton Sheep Day will be held on Sunday 2 July and is a free event. Further details can be found by visiting Welcome to Skipton’s website.

Grassington Festival

Fans of music and the arts will love Grassington Festival and this weekend sees the grand finale with a performance by 80s pop legends Bananarama. Packed full of fantastic live music events, talks and guided walks, Grassington Festival is held every June and continues to go from strength to strength. If you’d like to find out more, or to book tickets, please visit Grassington Festival’s website for further information.

The Yorkshire Dales on Film

Yorkshire Dales holidays at the Rendezvous Hotel

The stunning landscape of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales is justifiably famous but did you know that the Dales have been featured in a number of well-known films and TV series?

The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway has long been a huge hit with railway fans of all ages but also feature in the The Railway Children. A number of trains and locations around the railway were used during filming, including memorable scenes on Worth Valley station.

The Limestone Pavement at the top of Malham Cove was used in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows in scenes where Harry Potter and Hermione Grainger set up camp, whilst the quaint market town of Holmfirth was used for many years as the setting for the much-loved comedy Last of the Summer Wine.

Esholt near Shipley was home to ITV’s Emmerdale for many years whilst Halton Gill in Littondale was the setting for the incredibly spooky Woman in Black starring Daniel Radcliffe. Last and by no means least, Kettlewell, Skipton, Ilkley and Settle were used in numerous scenes for the screen version of Calendar Girls.
