Grassington Dickensian Festival is held on various Saturdays throughout December. During the festival the picturesque village of Grassington, just a short drive from Skipton, is transformed into a winter wonderland reminiscent of Dickens' famous Christmas tales. The village square and surrounding cobbled streets are filled with traditional markets stalls with shopkeepers, villagers and visitors dressed in Victorian costume. Musicians, dancers and street entertainers are all on hand to help make the Dickensian Festival extra festive. The famous Knaresborough Christmas Market has been incredibly popular for many years with Christmas shoppers and those looking for some traditional festive fun. The 2012 Christmas market will be held on 1st and 2nd December and promises to be a real Christmas treat. The Christmas market offers a wonderful selection of regoinal specialities with locally produced fare from independent producers always proving very popular. Wensleydale and Swaledale cheeses along with other local cheeses, meat and game from traditional butchers, fresh bread, Christmas cakes and puddings are just some of the delights on offer. Skipton boasts some wonderful independent shops and Harrogate with it's great choice of elegant shops and boutiques is only a short drive away. Leeds is shopping heaven and can be easily reached by train from Skipton.
