Inspirational Visitor for Ladies’ Lunch

On Thursday 7th September The Rendezvous will be welcoming Gareth Dunne, a speaker with a difference. At 23, Gareth’s bucket of life experiences was working our nicely. A more than half decent rugby player, keen traveller, and all round good bloke, he had a life plan. Having completed his MA, Gareth was waiting to take up his place at Sandhurst Military Academy on the fast track to a commission into the elite Parachute regiment as an officer in the British Army.

Until his one in a million cancer diagnosis where a leg amputation and learning to walk again followed. But cancer didn’t stop him. Two years later, he’d picked up a London job with an international affairs consultancy, won Paralympics GB places for cycling, paracanoe and athletics and landed his dream job with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Before he could be enrolled however, he discovered the cancer had returned and is now incurable.

Raising funds for Cancer Research UK

At this stage, in true Gareth style however, he set up a blog and Justgiving page and set out on a mission to raise £100,000 for Cancer Research UK. With the support of his family, friends and networks, he has raised over £24,000 in the 4 months up to July 2017 despite undergoing gruelling courses of chemotherapy every three weeks.

Gareth speaks about his experiences with a great deal of humour, perspective and a stunningly positive outlook. The next stop on his inspirational fund raising drive is at our latest Ladies’ Lunch at the Rendezvous on Thursday 7th September, where attendees will be able to hear Gareth’s story fist hand and help in raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK at the same time.
