The team at the family-owned-and-run Rendezvous Hotel have put together a selection of day trip itineraries that will give you and your group a real taste of Yorkshire.

Skipton Discovery - 3 nights

In this tour there’s an opportunity to discover more about the delightful market town of Skipton, the ‘Gateway to the Dales’. We visit Skipton Castle and Skipton Museum, there’s a two-hour relaxing cruise on the Leeds Liverpool Canal, a nostalgic ride on the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway, a visit to the magnificent Bolton Abbey itself, a scenic tour of the Yorkshire Dales, and a guided tour of the popular Dales’ market town of Grassington.

Add in all the hospitality and entertainment at the Rendezvous Hotel and you have all the ingredients for a truly memorable short break.

Travel to Skipton

Travel to the Rendezvous Hotel. You’ll be greeted with a welcoming cup of Yorkshire Tea (other drinks are available!) and Yorkshire Cakes. You’ll also receive a Yorkshire ‘goody bag’, including a traditional Yorkshire flat cap to keep, and possibly wear, as a souvenir of your visit. There’s time to relax in the hotel before dinner. The Rendezvous welcome continues in our Baby Swan restaurant with a pre-dinner presentation of the world-famous ‘The Ode to the Yorkshire Pudding’. Then enjoy a traditional three-course dinner, including the option of locally sourced Yorkshire lamb, carved in front of your eyes.

Skipton Castle and Canal Cruise

A full day exploring Skipton starts with a gentle guided walk from the hotel along the canal towpath into the centre of Skipton (about a mile). You’ll enjoy the ‘War of the Roses’ guided tour of the 900-year-old Skipton Castle followed by an award-winning pork pie lunch within the castle grounds. After lunch you’ll visit the fascinating Skipton Museum followed by free time to explore the town centre with its many independent shops and historic cobbled High Street. Later in the afternoon you’ll board a canal boat for a relaxing two-hour afternoon cruise along the Leeds Liverpool Canal. Enjoy tea, coffee and biscuits and the picturesque canal-side scenery. The journey ends right outside the hotel where another cup of Yorkshire tea awaits in our spacious lounge. There’s time again to relax before your three-course dinner.

The Yorkshire Dales, Bolton Abbey and a Steam Train

Today we discover more of Yorkshire’s heritage and history with a ride on the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway. After enjoying stepping back in time you’ll visit Bolton Abbey itself, best known for the famous Priory ruins, and a landscape full of history and legend. There’s time for lunch before getting back on the coach for a tour of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, including a guided walking tour of the market town of Grassington. You’ll return to the hotel where a welcoming cuppa awaits. This evening, your three-course dinner will be accompanied by our resident pianist.

Travel Home

It’s time to say goodbye to Yorkshire and the Rendezvous Hotel and start your journey home.

There are opportunities to add Yorkshire-themed evening entertainment into your short break package. We can offer a quiz, a film, and talks from local people. It’s not uniquely ‘Yorkshire’, but we can also provide a live singer and disco. The choice is yours. Ask us for details.

Bronte Country - 4 nights

A date with Heathcliff awaits as we visit the world-famous Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth. We enjoy a guided walking tour of the hilltop village of Haworth, take a tractor safari ride at Thornton Hall Farm Park, enjoy a tour on board a vintage bus, and step back in time to ride on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. We also visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Saltaire and explore Salts Mill. Our itinerary also includes visits to Skipton Castle, Skipton Museum, and a relaxing cruise on the Leeds Liverpool Canal.

Vintage Bus Tour, Tractor Safari and Brewery Tour

A real treat today, as a vintage bus will pick you up from the hotel and take you on a tour of parts of the Yorkshire Dales. Sit back in nostalgic luxury as you explore the Yorkshire countryside on one of five specially selected itineraries. Your journey back in time starts and finishes at the hotel, so give your own coach driver time off to relax, and discover Yorkshire the old-fashioned way. There are opportunities to stop-off along the way for shopping, comfort breaks and that all important cuppa. In the afternoon we visit Thornton Hall Farm Park to learn more about everyday life at a working Yorkshire farm and enjoy a Tractor Safari. You’ll end the day out with a show round at the award-winning Beer Monkey Brewery. After your day exploring the countryside you’ll welcome the tea, coffee and biscuits waiting for you when you return to the hotel. This evening there’s a tutored beer tasting (other drinks are available) followed by three-course hot supper (that’s Yorkshire for dinner).

Haworth, the Brontes, Steam Train and Saltaire

A full day of Yorkshire treats today as we head off to Haworth for a ride on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. Enjoy a return journey by steam or diesel-hauled train. It’s a short drive into Haworth itself where you’ll enjoy a fascinating and informative 90-minute tour of the Bronte Parsonage Museum, the former Bronte family home where sisters Charlotte, Emily and Anne spent most of their lives and where they wrote their famous novels. Later in the afternoon we drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Saltaire to visit Salts Mill. Opened in 1853, this industrial village and textile mill takes its name from its founder, Sir Titus Salt, and the River Aire, which runs through it. Tea and coffee await on your return to the hotel. This evening, your three-course dinner will be accompanied by our resident pianist.

Option: The visit to the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway can include a guided tour of picturesque Oakworth Station, the location for the 1968 film ‘The Railway Children’, and behind-the- scenes visit to the locomotive sheds at Haworth and the carriage and wagon workshops at Oxenhope.

Emmerdale Explorer - 3 nights

Here’s an opportunity to go behind-the-scenes at Yorkshire’s very own TV soap opera Emmerdale. We visit the studio tour in Leeds, and see where the early series’ were filmed. We visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Saltaire and enjoy a relaxing cruise on the Leeds Liverpool Canal. We spend time discovering why the market town of Skipton is known as the “Gateway to the Dales”, and visit Skipton Castle and the town’s museum.

This morning we travel into Leeds to visit the Emmerdale Studios Tour. This behind-the-scenes studio tour reveals original sets, costumes and props used in the making of the popular ITV series. We then travel to the village of Esholt, the location for the filming of the original series’ of ‘Emmerdale Farm. You’ll enjoy a walking tour and the opportunity to visit the original ‘Woolpack Inn’, where buffet lunch will be served. In the afternoon we visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Saltaire to visit Salts Mill. Discovering the Yorkshire Dales National Park – 4 nights

The Yorkshire Dales National Park, better known simply as ‘The Dales’, is a unique landscape, full of stone-built villages, magnificent scenery, and world-beating heritage. This five-day tour gives you the opportunity to discover what makes ‘The Dales’ a very special place. Go back in time, explore ancient castles, and learn more about the challenges of everyday Dales life, then return to the Rendezvous Hotel for a taste of more Yorkshire hospitality.

Travel to Yorkshire

Your journey brings you to the Rendezvous Hotel where you’ll be greeted with a welcoming cup of Yorkshire Tea (other drinks are available) and a selection of Yorkshire cakes. You’ll also receive a Yorkshire ‘goody bag’, including a traditional Yorkshire flat cap to keep, and possibly to wear, as a souvenir of your visit.

Sheepdogs and a Farm Safari

This morning, enjoy a Sheepdog demonstration with local farmer Richard Fawcett. The demonstration is suitable for families of all sizes as well as larger groups. Learn about farming history as Richard gives an introductory talk on local farming history, the area, the sheep, and his dogs. Then it’s time to see the dogs, and the sheep, in action, interspersed with more interesting information and anecdotes, and an opportunity to ask questions.

In the afternoon we visit Thornton Hall Farm Park to learn more about everyday life at a working Yorkshire farm. The highlight of your visit will be a Tractor Safari taking across the farm to see more of life in the Dales.

Back at the hotel a welcoming cup of tea awaits your return. Your three-course evening meal in the Baby Swan restaurant will be accompanied by music from our in-house pianist. You’ll end the day with a stargazing experience, or, if there are no stars to see, a presentation explaining the traditional craft, possibly art, or drystone walling.

Steam train, Skipton Castle and canal cruise

Returning to Skipton you’ll enjoy the ‘War of the Roses’ guided tour of the 900-year-old Skipton Castle, followed by an award-winning pork pie late lunch within the castle grounds. After the meal you’ll visit the fascinating Skipton Museum followed by free time to explore the unique, typical Dales market town centre with its snickets and ginnels and many independent shops as well as historic cobbled High Street. There’s time again to relax before your three-course dinner.

Vintage Bus Tour, Wensleydale Creamery, Dinner Cruise

A real treat today, as a vintage bus will pick you up from the hotel and take you on a journey to Castle Bolton. You’ll have an opportunity to see the most amazing views from the comfort of your seat. Sit back in nostalgic luxury as you explore the Yorkshire countryside.

On the way back from the castle we visit Wensledale Creamery for some sampling and the
opportunity to try your hand at some cheese making.

On our route back to Skipton there’s an opportunity to see the famous Ribblehead Viaduct, an imposing 24-arch structure completed in 1874 as part of the Settle-Carlise railway, and still in regular use today. We also visit Andy Swinscoe at the Courtyard Dairy, well known for its selection of produce from small, independent suppliers. Tea and coffee await on your return to the hotel.

For your last night with us at the Rendezvous we have a special treat, a three-hour relaxing dinner cruise on the Leeds Liverpool Canal. You’ll board a purpose-built canal barge right outside the hotel.

Your three-course dinner will be prepared by our own chefs in the hotel, and delivered to you on
board, just at the right time. Our team might also have one or two stories about the canal to keep
you entertained.
