Our Convenient Drive-Up Cash Machine
Just a little reminder to our customers and local Skipton residents that we have drive-up ATM machine situated outside the hotel. This enables customers to withdraw cash without leaving their vehicle. It is ideal for anyone having difficulty visiting cash machines either because they have children in the car or find parking difficult.
The drive-up cash point is easy to use and very convenient because customers can pull in, get their cash and drive off without leaving the comfort of their vehicle. ~Things have certainly moved on a bit since actor Reg Varney opened the first one 50 years ago! The cash point is open for anyone to use, whether resident at the hotel or not.
Petal Children Cancer Research Ladies Lunch
20th July 2017
We will welcome another very interesting speaker who also has a great story, Olivia Slack. Sister of Lydia Slack, who endeared us with her very amusing stories of life in the Derbyshire hills with her farming family. We have also had Lydia’s dad Peter who was equally as amusing!
Olivia is 19 years old, unfortunately her mum Judith passed away after fighting her personal battle with cancer in December of 1998. Her mum was Peter’s sister, so having two children of their own Peter and Sylvia Slack took Olivia in aged 2 years old and brought her up as their own. As a consequence, and quite rightly, they call her their daughter and Olivia calls them mum and dad.
After completing her A Levels she joined young farmers and soon started entering competitions! Olivia won the National Young Farmers Junior Public Speaking Competition in 2015. She loves speaking and has a similar determination to aim high and do her very best, just like sister Lydia.
She has actually got through to the National Final of the Senior After Dinner Speaking Competition to be held on 1st July so fingers crossed for her! Dad Peter says very modestly ‘she’s very good’!! He must be very proud of his girls. Lydia now has an agent for her speaking engagements.

Skipton Cycle Races 2017
Skipton’s annual town centre cycle race is due to take place on Wednesday 5th July and offers an unmissable opportunity to watch cyclists compete on a fast 1km circuit.
Featuring a fun race for under 12s, youth racing and an elite men’s race, Skipton Cycle Races have become an incredibly popular fixture in the town’s sporting calendar. Following part of the routes visited by the 2014 Grand Depart and the Tour de Yorkshire, the race circuit starts at the top of the High Street before travelling onto Water Street, Coach Street and Swadford Steet.
The spectator-friendly race circuit offers lots of great places to enjoy a view of the action and with a picture postcard backdrop of Skipton Castle and town centre, what better way to enjoy an evening of super-fast road cycling?
For further information including race timings and car parking details, please visit Skipton Cycle Races website.
From sheep to music – all happening around Skipton this weekend!
Skipton Sheep Day 2017
Skipton’s annual Sheep Day takes place this weekend and as one of the town’s most popular events, is well worth a visit.
Skipton Sheep Day is held each year to celebrate Skipton’s heritage – Skipton is ‘Sceap Tun’ in Anglo Saxon, meaning Sheep Town.
‘Sheep Shows’ will be held throughout the day along with a wide range of activities and attractions including dog and duck displays, a petting zoo, birds of prey and rare breed sheep displays. There will also be a selection of stalls, countryside arts, crafts and sideshows.
Skipton Sheep Day will be held on Sunday 2 July and is a free event. Further details can be found by visiting Welcome to Skipton’s website.
Fans of music and the arts will love Grassington Festival and this weekend sees the grand finale with a performance by 80s pop legends Bananarama. Packed full of fantastic live music events, talks and guided walks, Grassington Festival is held every June and continues to go from strength to strength. If you’d like to find out more, or to book tickets, please visit Grassington Festival’s website for further information.
