Happy 100th brithday Bessie!
Birthday parties and celebrations at our Yorkshire hotel
There’s nothing we enjoy more than hosting a birthday celebration so it was lovely to see Bessie Chambers who recently came to the Rendezvous to celebrate her 100th birthday!
Bessie, along with family from Yorkshire and Ireland, joined us to spend some time in Yorkshire where she grew up. Born in Bradford, Bessie enjoyed visits to Bolton Abbey as a child and cycling around the local area as a teenager. Although Bessie has since lived in Australia and Morecambe, she still enjoys a trip home to her beloved Yorkshire countryside.
Bessie’s husband Bert passed away in 2006 and she now lives with family in Stoke on Trent. She has four children, 7 grandchildren and 13 grandchildren and when asked what she attributes to her longevity, she puts it down to a good night’s sleep and good food – especially fresh cream trifle! We couldn’t agree more: that sounds like the perfect recipe for a long life!
Happy birthday to Bessie from everyone here at the Rendezvous Hotel – it was a privilege to help you celebrate your 100th birthday and we’d love to welcome you and your family here again!

We’re national tourism award winners – for the fourth time!
Our Yorkshire hotel wins again in the British Coach Tourism Awards 2019
We’re delighted to announce that the Rendezvous Hotel, the ‘Yorkshire Hotel by the Canal’, has been recognised as the UK’s leading independent hotel for groups at the British Coach Tourism Awards 2019. It is the fourth time since 2014 that we’ve won the award.
The prestigious event, held at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham on
Wednesday 20 March, and attended by more than 400 tourism professionals, recognises
excellence across the coach tourism community.
The event was hosted by television presenter and best-selling author Carol Vorderman.
Presenting the award to Rendezvous Hotel owners Malcolm and Karen Weaving, she said
the judges were impressed by the way the hotel goes above and beyond to deliver first-class customer service.
The Rendezvous Hotel was also a finalist in two other awards categories: ‘Dining Experience of the Year’ and ‘Coach Tourism Innovation of the Year, both recognising the launch of a new dinner cruise on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in 2018.
Commenting on the awards success, Malcolm Weaving says: “This is the fourth time we’ve
won this award since 2014, taking the honours in 2014, 2016 and last year. Once again we
were up against some very stiff competition from hotels in Cornwall, Hampshire, Cheshire
and Lancashire. The success is very much down to the hard work, professionalism and
commitment to first-class customer service given by all the staff at the hotel. Later this year
we will be launching ‘Eco Swan’, our brand new, purpose built dining and function boat.
Winning this award now is just the start of what promises to be an exciting year for all of us
at the Rendezvous Hotel.”

Rendezvous Hotel hosts Low Carb Skipton group
Low Carb Skipton regularly holds its monthly meeting at The Rendezvous Hotel. The meetings cover everything that newcomers to the Low Carb High Fat diet will need to know, including why the low carb diet is essential for diabetics but is also highly advantageous to people with other serious conditions as well as those who want to lose weight.
In the most recent meeting on 11th March, Verner Wheelock, who is the founder of the voluntary group, delivered a talk exploding many of the myths surrounding cholesterol and statins. Verner strongly challenges the Mail on Sunday’s recently launched campaign which backed the use of statins for those at risk of heart disease.
Also at the meeting, Sarah Thomas gave a very interesting talk about weight loss, looking at why we gain weight, what controls appetite and why a low carbohydrate lifestyle is the best option for those want to shed the pounds.
Meetings are open to everyone, and are held twice a month – one evening meeting, and one lunchtime meeting. Please see the Low Carb Skipton website for more information.
