The latest updates from the Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton, straight to your computer or mobile phone!
There’s plenty to do in and around Skipton whatever the weather!
We’re incredibly proud of our location right on the doorstep of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park and we think that Skipton makes the perfect destination for a holiday or short break. Although we hate to admit it, unfortunately it does rain occasionally in this part of the world but with plenty of activities whatever the weather, even the wettest weather doesn’t need to stop you having a great time!
Skipton town centre boasts an excellent selection of independent shops, cafes and restaurants and with a market that’s held four times a week, offers plenty of opportunities to shop until you drop! The website Welcome to Skipton contains a complete listing of many of Skipton’s shops, including opening and times and further details of the town’s market.
History buffs will love exploring Skipton Castle and as one of the most complete, fully roofed medieval castles in England it’s a great place to enjoy a picnic in the grounds (if the sun is shining!) which have magnificent views across the town and Skipton woods. Open every day except Christmas Day, Skipton Castle makes a fantastic day out, whatever the weather!
The Leeds-Liverpool Canal runs through Skipton town centre and it’s possible to cruise along the canal on one of the narrowboat cruises which depart regularly from Skipton Canal Basin. Lovers of real ale will appreciate a tour of the Copper Dragon Brewery which is based in Skipton, whilst the town’s Plaza Cinema shows the very latest Hollywood releases.
There’s plenty to do a little further afield and Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway makes a wonderful day out for steam railway buffs aged 1 to 100! Travelling between Embsay and Bolton Abbey, this beautifully restored steam railway runs throughout the year and is the ideal wet weather activity. Hesketh Farm Park and Thornton Farm Park are both within easy reach of the Rendezvous and are ideal for entertaining the kids: offering both indoor and outdoor activities, these farm parks will delight young and old alike.
These are just some of the wet weather activities available in and around Skipton and with plenty to do whether you’re travelling by car or public transport, there’s something for everyone! If you would like to find out more, there’s list of wet weather activities on our website.

If you want to get ahead, get a hat!
On Friday the 18th March, Welcome to Yorkshire brought 6 Chinese journalist who were on a tour around the North of England to the Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton.
Accompanied by their Guide Alan Rowley, from Yorkshire True Tours and a Visit Britain escort, they had dinner bed and breakfast enjoying some true Yorkshire Hospitality.
They had previous stayed throughout the North of England Starting in Cheshire and making their way through to Blackpool, the Lake District and Cumbria, Durham, Whitby and York and after Rendezvous onto Bronte Parsonage before going to Leeds.
Whilst they were at the Rendezvous they were presented with a gift bag from Malcolm Weaving, proprietor, with some fabulous Yorkshire goodies including some Yorkshire Tea and Copper Dragon Beer. But, their favourite by far was the Traditional Yorkshire Flat Caps, from the Flat Cap stand on Skipton Market. Quote from Malcolm “I take my hat off to the Flat Cap stall holder for his cooperation, I will be presenting a picture to the stall holder of the journalists wearing his Flat Caps, to have on his stall”
They all got into the spirit of things, trying on their caps and wearing them in different ways, like old Yorkshireman would. They were so delighted with the caps that they even wore them to dinner in the Restaurant, to the delight of other diners, and to breakfast the next morning. They thoroughly enjoyed their stay and loved the food.
All in all it was a memorable visit and will hopefully highlight Skipton and Yorkshire to the emerging Chinese Tourist market.
In March this year I had the pleasure of being a driver/guide to a group of Chinese journalists touring the North of England. We all agree that the highlight of the 9 day tour was the time spent at The Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton. The welcome from owner Malcolm Weaving was outstanding, a genuine heartfelt Yorkshire welcome, from a man who clearly enjoys what he does and he does it very well. There is a genuine feeling of contentment when you enter the Rendezvous, and the whole place has a really great atmosphere. Happy smiling staff perform their duties with style and a willingness to please. Dinner was a combination of great food, generous Yorkshire portions of quality local produce and Malcolm’s company, a very gregarious man who kept the table entertained with stories, jokes and recommendations from the various menus. After a good night’s sleep in a very well presented room, we again enjoyed Malcolm’s presence at the best breakfast I have ever eaten in a hotel anywhere. A simple dish like scrambled eggs never tasted this good anywhere but the Rendezvous, tomatoes again a simple dish but how do they get them to taste so good? The Rendezvous was in the middle of our tour and we were still talking about the place on our last night, the Rendezvous should be on everyone’s list of places to stay.
