Yorkshire Dales festival fun for the whole family
The Yorkshire Dales National Park is home to many fantastic festivals and events and whether you’re a music fan, a lover of the arts or like nothing better than long-distance walking, there’ll be something for you.
Festivals and events take place in the Yorkshire Dales throughout the year but as summer is almost around the corner, the National Park’s programme of festivals and events really picks up a gear. There’s so much going on that there isn’t space in this blog post to mention everything so we thought we’d cover some of the highlights of summer 2016.
The Yorkshire Dales Festival of Food and Drink runs from 18 to 19 June 2016 and is held in Leyburn in beautiful Wensleydale. Now one of the best events of its kind, this festival is a wonderful opportunity to experience some of the best food and drink the Yorkshire Dales has to offer.
Dentdale Music and Beer festival offers the perfect excuse to take in the gorgeous surroundings of the Dentdale valley whilst enjoying a wide variety of live music including folk, blues, jazz and country. With lots of delicious locally brewed ale on offer, the Dentdale Music and Beer Festival is one of the highlights of the Dales’ festival calendar.
Grassington Festival runs from 17 June to 2 July 2016 and showcases all art forms including music, theatre, dance and the visual arts. Grassington Festival includes plenty of events for children and with lots of free events on offer, is a festival which all the family can enjoy.
Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival is one of our favourites and every summer (13 to 21 August 2016) the lovely village of Kettlewell becomes home to hundreds of scarecrows. The aim is for visitors to find all the scarecrows by solving clues and puzzles along the way, making it a fantastic family day out.
This is just a taste of some of the events taking place in the Yorkshire Dales National Park this summer and if you would like to find out more, we suggest visiting the National Park’s website for further information.

Skipton Accordion Festival
We were proud to host the Skipton Accordion Festival here at the Rendezvous Hotel recently.
The festival was organised by husband and wife team John and Jackie Romero and there was lots of music from accordion players nationwide who converged on us and played music in a friendly and bubbly atmosphere – take a look at this video:

Lord Mayor’s Civic Dinner
We’re very proud to have hosted a St George’s Day Mayor’s Civic Dinner for the Mayor of Skipton and Craven here at the Rendezvous Hotel.
Held on Saturday 23 April, the evening was a great success and raised a fantastic £850 for the Mayor’s chosen charity; the ABF – The Soldiers Charity which is national charity, dedicated to raising money for soldiers, veterans and their families.
Following a delicious three-course dinner, guests enjoyed entertainment by BrassTen, Trio from Skipton Choral Society and our own in-house DJ. The evening was rounded off by flag waving and traditional songs, followed by a toast in honour of Her Majesty The Queen.
It was a wonderful night and enjoyed by all! Thank you to everyone who came and kindly donated to such a worthy cause.
There’s plenty to do in and around Skipton whatever the weather!
We’re incredibly proud of our location right on the doorstep of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park and we think that Skipton makes the perfect destination for a holiday or short break. Although we hate to admit it, unfortunately it does rain occasionally in this part of the world but with plenty of activities whatever the weather, even the wettest weather doesn’t need to stop you having a great time!
Skipton town centre boasts an excellent selection of independent shops, cafes and restaurants and with a market that’s held four times a week, offers plenty of opportunities to shop until you drop! The website Welcome to Skipton contains a complete listing of many of Skipton’s shops, including opening and times and further details of the town’s market.
History buffs will love exploring Skipton Castle and as one of the most complete, fully roofed medieval castles in England it’s a great place to enjoy a picnic in the grounds (if the sun is shining!) which have magnificent views across the town and Skipton woods. Open every day except Christmas Day, Skipton Castle makes a fantastic day out, whatever the weather!
The Leeds-Liverpool Canal runs through Skipton town centre and it’s possible to cruise along the canal on one of the narrowboat cruises which depart regularly from Skipton Canal Basin. Lovers of real ale will appreciate a tour of the Copper Dragon Brewery which is based in Skipton, whilst the town’s Plaza Cinema shows the very latest Hollywood releases.
There’s plenty to do a little further afield and Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway makes a wonderful day out for steam railway buffs aged 1 to 100! Travelling between Embsay and Bolton Abbey, this beautifully restored steam railway runs throughout the year and is the ideal wet weather activity. Hesketh Farm Park and Thornton Farm Park are both within easy reach of the Rendezvous and are ideal for entertaining the kids: offering both indoor and outdoor activities, these farm parks will delight young and old alike.
These are just some of the wet weather activities available in and around Skipton and with plenty to do whether you’re travelling by car or public transport, there’s something for everyone! If you would like to find out more, there’s list of wet weather activities on our website.
